(Mirjam Ester Erig)

Playing Towards the Sublime / Mirjam Ester Erig
A special cello concert in honor of “The Sublimation of the Heart”, an exhibition by photographer Michael Kagan.
Mirjam Ester Erig is a cellist and singer, originally from Switzerland and now based in the Jerusalem Hills. Her work inhabits the space between music, prayer, and improvisation, with a particular connection to the feminine voice, movement, and the moment as it unfolds.
In “The Sublimation of the Heart,” photographer Michael Kagan seeks to open a renewed and profound dialogue with the sublime that lies just beneath the surface of our everyday surroundings. Using the lens of a mobile phone and a gaze infused with imagination and inner contemplation, Kagan captures fleeting moments from the ordinary world around us. Through a delicate and precise artistic gesture—altering and abstracting the background—he removes the “noise” surrounding the image, allowing the inner beauty of things to emerge.
Michael Kagan (b. 1956, London) is a hunter of extraordinary and unexpected forms and patterns. His photographs are part of an ongoing search for the hidden beauty of nature, revealed through the myriad structures and patterns embedded within it. This journey began with his doctoral research at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which explored the chemical origins of natural patterns and the ways in which they evolve from simplicity into complexity.
