Forecast introduces its mentoring program and methodology with screenings and a live conversation between former Forecast mentors Ruth Patir and Tomer Heymann, the program’s initiator Freo Majer, moderated by art journalist and Forecast’s Executive Editor Hili Perlson. The screenings include the short film Correct Me If I’m Wrong (2025) by Hao Zhou, produced during his mentorship with Tomer Heymann, as well as the Israeli premiere of Meltdown (2024) by Keren Cytter, who’s a mentor in Forecast’s current edition. The titular “meltdown” reflects the inner states of Cytter’s characters as well as the chaotic spaces they inhabit. While the world around them draws ever closer to destruction, the protagonists forge deeper relationships, making the trilogy a kind of love story. Hailing from southwest China, Hao Zhou explores queer and feminist stories in peripheral spaces. This autobiographical documentary follows Zhou’s family as its members wish to rid the sole male heir of everything they hate and fear. In their mountainous town, family members expose the heir to a series of mystical interventions to transform his body, mind, spirit, and fate. As this arduous pursuit exposes tensions and traumas amid all participants, will the family end up being the ones who are transformed?
